I am more and more convinced that the saying is true: "when it rains it pours." And it has been doing a lot of raining here in Utah. So much raining, in fact, that Davis County has been on flood watch for quite some time now. The water table is rising, the reservoirs are filling up (and being drained in hopes of keeping up), runoff is rushing out of the mountains, and some of the snow pack hasn't even started to melt yet. Which is why this happened:
I've seen this before, but unlike the previous times, this was not caused by the stupidity of a neighbor leaving the sprinklers on all day. This was coming out of the ground. Luckily we caught it before it completely invaded the kitchen. Some got in under the door, which is not surprising, but Josh and EJ went back to the house just in time to see the water.
We (and by we I mean the men and my mom, since I'm the pregnant one that can't be of much help) set to work trying to install a pump to flush all of the water out. It was quite the humorous process, but it worked beautifully in the end:
Thank goodness the sun is out today and the heat might dry things up a bit. It might also make this dry a bit faster:
Which brings me to why we were away from home when the flooding started in the first place. Sunday night we discovered a slow leak under our kitchen sink. Yippee! And along with the water damage to the cabinet underneath? Mold. And quite a bit of it. We spent the night at my parents Sunday so that we could have a professional look at the damage on Monday. Luckily it wasn't too bad, and they just had to tear out the boards under the sink and replace the faucet (pretty new faucet for me...which I haven't seen yet, since I am banished from the house until the mold and mold cleaner is all clean and dry).
I am ready for some dry weather and sunshine. Two separate water-related incidents in 12 hours is a little too much for me, thank you.
I cannot believe that!! We have not had a drop of rain in Tucson since oh February! And I hear in Utah the rain isn't done yet! I hope that is the end of the water battles this year, and you can get moved back in soon to keep nesting for Baby E!
